Special Session of the WaterClima-LAC Project, Coastal Zone Management, at the XVI World Water Congress, Mexico

On Thursday 1st June, a special session of the WaterClima-LAC Project, Coastal Zone Management will be held as part of the XVI World Water Congress: Linking Science and Policy, taking place at the Cancun International Convention Center (Cancun ICC), Cancun, Mexico, from 29th May to 2ndJune 2017.The congress is being hosted under the aegis of The International Water Resources Association (IWRA), the National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) and the National Association of Water and Sanitation (ANEAS).
Importantly, this special session delivered by the WaterClima-LAC Project, Coastal Zone Management will focus on the’Resilience of Coastal Watersheds in Latin America and the Caribbean’, which is included in Topic No.5 of the congress, entitled ‘Aquatic ecosystems and physical regimes’. This session can be attended in English and Spanish.
The session will see the presentation of innovative papers and discussion panels held by experts in resilience assessment. These experts include Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Director General CATIE, who will establish the science-policy nexus within the context of coastal zone resilience at the global level; and Mr. Aldo Ramírez, Senior Researcher ITESM, and Ms. Claudia Galleguillos, Head of Sustainability FCH, who will analyze instruments (vulnerability assessment and ecosystem services, respectively) for the analysis of resilience at the level of the coastal basin, and demonstrate their use at any scale.
In order to mitigate and adapt to climate change, Ms. Laura Benegas, WaterClima-LAC Project Coordinator, Coastal Zone Management, will shed light on good practices on watershed management that contribute to the socio-ecological resilience of local communities in coastal areas.
Bringing the day to a close, Mr. Arturo Hernández, Researcher ITESM, will be formulating the final conclusions.
Meanwhile, throughout the Congress itself, EFB Team on behalf of the consortium partners of the WaterClima-LAC Project, will be hosting an exhibition stand where they will be available to answer questions on the different activities that the project is carrying out as well as the results that are being produced.
